Lana | Birth / by Jason Rushing

Seven years ago we were contacted by a single mom who was busting it with two little ones.  Little did we know at the time that these would become some of the 'lifers', as I like to call them, the ones who are with us for life.  So the years went by and we would shoot 3-4 times a year,  birthdays and family sessions etc.  Then it changed when mom met the guy she would agree to marry a short time later.  Im not completely sure of everyone's private life that we meet but when we found out that the single mom of two had found a guy and when we met them together we knew,  we could see it, mom was happy, mom was in love,  new boyfriend was husband material.  Wouldn't you know it,  the single mom of two asked us to photograph their wedding,  we agreed obviously.  Now that you had a short backstory,  let's finish this.  New husband became a first time official dad Thursday night at 11:17pm.  Making him a dad of three.  Now where we come in,  given our history with the family, we mustered up the courage to ask if we could be a part of the birth.  Birth photography has always been intriguing but we never were presented with a possible opportunity.  A couple days ago we did something in the 14 yrs of camera slinging we've never done, live birth photography.  Now I wish I could've been there but with mom's wishes she requested only Candace in the room.  For someone that rarely shoots anymore I knew the skills were still there,  albeit a tad rusty but with a bit of practice she rocked it like old times.  I did return the next day to capture Lana's brother and sister's first meeting.  I hope we can experience this again soon.  It was AWESOME!!!  I love my job!!!

As a dad I can understand this face,  you love someone you've never met,  and the first meeting is unforgettable.

This will go down as a 'high water' mark in our photography.  It's not every day you can experience such an intimate and life changing moment.  Congrats to the family.  Newborn session will be coming soon.........
